RELEASED 2013
LABEL Universal Music
Singer songwriter Charlotte Yates releases her sixth album Archipelago, May 10, 2013. It’s her first full solo release on Universal Music who have worked with Charlotte over the past 12 years while she has been at the helm of her critically acclaimed compilation albums/ concert series ‘Baxter’, ‘Tuwhare’ and ‘Ihimaera’.
Archipelago is a full studio album with 12 brand new tracks, including the single A Heart to Make with Yates’ trademark ‘almost edible vocals’ & ‘sophisticated lyrics’ to the fore. From the gently acoustic Falling Down to the gritty rocker Stains Your Heart, Yates's song writing has been fleshed out by award winning sound designer, audio engineer and producer Gil Eva Craig, who has brought a lush, at times almost eerie, electronic texture and depth to Yates’ songs. Under the monika gilli.bird, Craig also supplies the thirteenth track on the album, the hypnotic remix of Yates's homage to Hone Tuwhare's poem, Mad.
Archipelago is also littered with performances from outstanding guest artists, in reference to Yates' larger compilation work, including Greg Johnson, Darren Mathaissen (Shapeshifter), Tom Callwood (Phoenix Foundation) , Michelle Scullion, Vicki Thorpe, Jeff Henderson, Susan Fullerton-Smith and Slava Fainitski (Wellington Orchestra), Vita O'Brien and Gil Eva Craig.
