An out-of-work teenager finds a driver's licence and uses it to take a hire car for a joy ride south from Kaitaia. In Auckland, during an encounter with a traffic cop, a stranger come to his aid. The latter has just seen his wife leave him to find some space in Invercargill. Having no money, the teen's hire car is his means to get to see her. This is basically a comic, buddy road film that broke many barriers. It was the first to recover its costs from the local market, and It proved that a totally New Zealand film product could be not only entertaining, but profitable. Although it has some editing and other production flaws, it was well done for such a low budget film (less than $400,000nz).
